Canadian Confederation was the joining of the canadas. They wanted to join, because the british wouldn't give them the money for the railway, unless they joined confederation. The Railway, which the people wanted, would give them transortation for goods, and this would allow them to trade among themselves, and move around easier. Another Pro of this railway, is that if someone attacked British north america which would be known as canada, the railway would allow the other colonies to send in troops, to protect it. This railway, would make canada as well-sustaining as we are today.
